New Amtrak Train Station
Coming to Winter Park, FL
The City of Winter Park, FL, Amtrak, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), are partnering to build a new train station in Winter Park to service Amtrak & SunRail.
The new 2,400-square-foot building will be located just 75 feet south of the existing station in Winter Park.
Featuring Craftsman-style architecture, the new station will include ADA-compliant restrooms open to the public during normal operating hours. It will also have what officials describe as "a warm lobby to greet and welcome train visitors to our city."
In addition, the station will have elements of the “Art in Transit” concept recently approved by the City Commission.
Built in 1962, the existing Amtrak station serves as a major entrance into the city. In 2008, the visioning began when a number of public charrettes were held asking the community for ideas to make the train station more characteristic of Winter Park.
The new station will be funded primarily by a federal allocation administered by the FTA through a Joint Participation Agreement between FDOT and the city.
Construction begins in February 2013 with an expected grand opening by winter 2013. Visit www.cityofwinterpark.org or access Amtrak & SunRail Information.
