The King Has Left the Bldg
Elvis Presley got his start in Shreveport, LA, with the Louisiana Hayride on Oct. 16, 1954. The Hayride was broadcast on KWKH, a 50,000-watt radio station. The catch phrase “Elvis has left the building” was actually coined in Shreveport. It was first uttered at Hirsch Coliseum by Louisiana Hayride producer Horace Logan to quiet screaming teens.
Birthplace of the King
While Elvis is usually associated with Nashville, TN, he was actually born in Tupelo, MS. Not surprisingly, the Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau has an Elvis page on its Web site.
